Barron County (WQOW) – Jake Patterson, the man accused of murdering James and Denise Closs, and kidnapping their daughter Jayme, waived his preliminary hearing.
It was a packed courtroom as Patterson made his first in-person appearance on Wednesday. The entire hearing took 3 1/2 minutes.
During it, Patterson was led into the courtroom by Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. He chose to waive his right to a preliminary hearing.
Patterson spoke just seven words, yes and no, as he rocked in his chair with his hands cuffed in front of him answering the judges questions about his understanding of waiving his preliminary hearing.
Beside family and law enforcement filling the courtroom, the national media was back in Baron County as this case continues to draw national attention.
Patterson will be back in court March 27 for an arraignment.
