Charges against Pierce County deputy dropped due to scheduling issue, could be re-filed

Pierce County (WQOW) – The charges against a Pierce County deputy accused of sexually assaulting a child have been dropped, seemingly because of a clerical error.

Allen Wojcik is accused of sexually assaulting a girl between November 2017 and January 2018, when she was 12 or 13 years old. Click here for our original story on the charges.

He was set to go to trial Wednesday, January 23. However, it seems there was a mix-up on the prosecution’s side. Since Wojcik has worked with Pierce County officials, a St. Croix County prosecutor was brought in to try the case. Earlier this month in the final planning stages of the trial, that St. Croix County lawyer said he was only supposed to be on the case temporarily, and was not prepared or available to go to trial. Since they had no one for the trial, the prosecutor’s office requested to dismiss the charges.

The charges against Wojcik were dismissed without prejudice, which means it’s possible they could be filed again.
