More space bought for Cannery District developments in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) — A couple more buildings have been purchased for development in Eau Claire’s Cannery District.

Wednesday morning, Eau Claire’s Redevelopment Authority (RDA) discussed updates to the Cannery developments, along with buying the buildings at 2000 Oxford Ave.

Eau Claire Economic Development Manager Aaron White told News 18 the RDA doesn’t have specific plans for those buildings or their space yet, but it’s an ideal location since it’s close to other redevelopment efforts, like the recently-approved housing. White said the Cannery District has needed this attention for some time.

“The businesses that are coming in and the commercial projects and the housing that are coming in also provide an additional attraction to that area of the community,” White said. “[A] live, work and play type of environment, and meeting some of the needs found in the community, particularly in the housing side.”

White mentioned work on the market and affordable housing is anticipated to start summer of 2019, and if everything goes as planned, he said it should be done in 2020.
