Eau Claire City Council approves active aging design for McDonough Park

Eau Claire (WQOW) – The Eau Claire City Council has approved a plan to make McDonough Park more senior-friendly.

Tuesday, the Eau Claire City Council approved the active aging design proposal for the park.

The remodel would include activities to get the older generation to the park through things like walking trails, shuffleboard or beanbags.

Acting City Council Preisdent Andrew Werthmann said the site made a lot of sense.

“We’re going to have areas for exercise and for seniors to come and meet each other,’ Werthmann said. “The potential for coffee and a food truck, these are all really important things. I think it’s an exciting thing to see that we’re making our parks more senior-friendly.”

The project already received a $20,000 grant from Mayo Clinic Health System and the Chippewa Valley Pickleball Club is also raising money for the project.
