Eau Claire (WQOW) — Halloween pumpkins are lining a hall at Roosevelt Elementary School, as the annual pumpkin contest has began.
Pumpkins were decorated by dozens of students and their families, all for a little friendly competition. Pumpkins were given ribbons, marked with first, second or third place. There were several categories, which allowed students to stretch their creativity. School officials told News 18 the students get more than an art project out of the competition.
“They get a sense of community, that everybody roots for everyone, everyone congratulates everyone on what a great job or how creative they were,” said Tammy Rud, partnership coordinator for Roosevelt. “Also, spending some family time together, working on it as a family.”
Rud also said there were 54 pumpkins on display, and the students will be able to take them home after school on Wednesday.
