Eau Claire North volleyball looking for upset over River Falls

Eau Claire (WQOW) — A pair of Big Rivers teams will meet in the Division 1 Sectional Semifinals Thursday night at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, as Eau Claire North will look to upset the top-seed River Falls.

The two teams met all the way back on August 25th, where the Wildcats got the sweep 3-0 on the road. However, the Huskies are red-hot in the last month of the season, and an improved team playing their best volleyball. Their strategy heading into Thursday, taking it point-by-point, and putting all the pressure on River Falls.

“Playing every point like it could be our last,” says senior outside-hitter Kary Petricka. “Nothing is hitting the floor, and we’re not giving up any easy points. We’re not giving them easy points throughout the game, we’re limiting that and we’re letting them make the mistakes and us take it back on them.”

Head Coach Perris Cooley is excited for the challenge, and just wants his team to leave it all on the court.

“We’ve got nothing to lose, we have no pressure on us at all,” Cooley says. “They’re the number one team in the state and we’re not. So we just have to go over and play as hard as we can, and let the chips fall as they may.

Eau Claire North and River Falls is set for 5 P.M. Thursday night at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. The winner will play either Stevens Point or Wausau West Saturday at Eau Claire Memorial for the Sectional Championship at 7 P.M.
