Colfax (WQOW) – Dogs are a man’s best friend and also friends of 12-year-old Faith Jerding.
Jerding, from Colfax, decided to do something selfless for her birthday. On Sunday, instead of asking for gifts, she asked her friends and family to buy pet food and toys for the animals at the Dunn County Humane Society.
Jerding held her birthday party at the Viking Bowl and Lounge in Colfax. One by one, Jerding’s loved ones placed bags and cans of pet food, chew toys and also cleaning supplies on a table. Jerding has tagged along to work with her mother, Sharon Wuollet, who volunteers at the Dunn County Humane Society. Jerding has spent plenty of time around wagging tails, and she said that is what inspired her for this special birthday wish.
“I just wanted the dogs to have a nice environment until they get a nice home, because some of them have had rough paths and so they should be able to get a chance to have a second chance,” said Jerding.
“I’m very proud of her, you know. It’s a big step for a 12-year-old to want to give up gifts for herself to give animals,” said Wuollet.
Wuollett said she hopes kids can see what her daughter is doing so young people can find ways to step up and make an impact in their communities.
