Second place, and $2,500, went to Tabatha Voss, owner of the Broom and Crow on East Grand Ave.

Third place, and $1,000, went to Bibi Krumenauer, owner of Star Cup.

The winner in 2017 was Blue Ox Running.

Eau Claire (WQOW) — Downtown Eau Claire small business owners made their pitches Thursday morning, hoping to bring home to big bucks as a part of the Jump Start competition.

For the 14th year, Downtown Eau Claire Inc. (DECI) will award $5,000 to one of the five applicants.

Matt Pabich, owner of Raggedy Man, an odds and ends gift shop on Barstow Street, told News 18 the money would help cover the costs of running his own business, plus the grant helps the winner gain some exposure.

“It’s so great to see the activity down here, and there’s so much going on that I don’t think people fully appreciate. So, it’s exciting to help get the word out and try to get more people down here,” Pabich said.

Tabatha Voss, owner of The Broom and Crow on East Grand Avenue, told News 18 winning would help her grow her unique business in an area she’s proud to be a part of.

“Just lots of great energy down here, and it’s sort of a hub, and people think of shopping small, they think of going downtown, and I wanted to foster that,” Voss said.

Also vying for the $5,000 is [Not Just] Anybody’s Bikeshop, Cork and Star Cup. The business that earns ‘honorable mention’ will get $2,500 and the ‘innovative idea’ winner will get $1,000. Winners will be revealed next Tuesday.
