Chippewa Valley music festivals brought in $35 million in 2017

Chippewa Valley (WQOW)- Tens of thousands of people come out for music festivals, bringing in money to local businesses, and extra tax dollars.

Mack John the Visit Eau Claire PR manager said Eaux Claires Music Festival had the biggest crowd last year, bringing in 21,000 people per day.

Some other festivals are close behind, as Country Fest expected to see 20,000 people per day.

John said last year, the music festivals made an impact of more than $35 million on the local economy, accounting for more than 10 percent of all visitor spending.

"What is happening is when people come to town for a music festival and they’re spending this money at area businesses, it’s providing those businesses with more opportunities to make these connections outside of just the local Eau Claire area as well," said John.

John said there’s been a lot of effort to extend the music festivals – the Eaux Claires Festival is longer now that Prex Claire has been added.
