Xcel customers to get bill credits starting in July

Eau Claire (WQOW) –
Bills from Xcel Energy should be a little lower starting in July.

State regulators ordered the credits Thursday.

Electricity customers will get a one-time credit of $22.63. They will also see an ongoing credit of about $4 starting in August.

Natural gas customers will get a one-time credit of about $7 on their July bill, followed by an ongoing monthly credit of about $1.

Eau Claire (WQOW) — You could be getting a refund on your energy bill this summer.

The state Public Service Commission has ordered utility companies across Wisconsin to spread $130 million in credits among their customers, to reflect savings generated by last year’s federal tax overhaul.

Of that total, $27 million will be split between Xcel Energy customers in the state. Officials are still working out exact amounts, but said people can expect to see the credit sometime in July. The order does not apply to municipal utilities or co-ops.

News 18 reached out to Xcel Energy in Eau Claire and officials said in a statement:

"We agree with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin’s decision to provide the benefits of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to our customers.  We are reviewing  yesterday’s decision and look forward to working with the Commission to determine the impact on customer bills."
