Intense thunderstorms will affect west central Wisconsin after 11 a.m. Thursday. Some storms could produce large hail and damaging winds. Torrential rainfall is also possible.

A line of intense thunderstorms will impact west central Wisconsin after 11 a.m. on Thursday. Some storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds. In addition, torrential rainfall could cause flooding in streets and low-lying areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday for the Eau Claire area and west central Wisconsin. The watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather. While hail and damaging winds are the primary threats, a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Review your severe weather safety plan and be prepared to take shelter!

The Storm Prediction Center has placed a large part of the Midwest in an “enhanced” risk for severe weather, which means “numerous severe storms are possible.”

Stormtracker 18 Weather meteorologists project most of Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening will be inundated with rain and thunderstorms. After the initial line of intense thunderstorms between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., another round of thunderstorms could develop between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. While severe weather is possible, the primary threat in the late afternoon and evening is heavy rain. More than two inches of rain could fall in a short time, causing flooding in low areas and streets.

Plan your activities accordingly! Those at Country Fest north of Cadott should pay close attention to weather conditions and be prepared to seek shelter.
