Elderly veterans receive free home furnace repair

Eau Claire (WQOW) – On Saturday, elderly veterans received free energy assistance by getting their furnaces repaired, serviced and cleaned. It is a program put on by Project Heat’s On, a collaborative effort from union technician volunteers and local contractors donating materials. Close to 27 volunteer technicians repaired furnaces to 30 homes in Eau Claire, Altoona, Augusta, and other areas.

“They’re the ones that gave us our freedoms to take care and protect this country and it is nice to give back,” said Russell Boos, Project Heat’s On volunteer.

“Any opportunity to help the community or to help a fellow veteran is an opportunity that I take,” said Ryan Huls, Project Heat’s On volunteer.

Volunteers said it is not just about helping elderly veterans, it is also about bringing awareness to all homeowners, that annual checkups on furnaces are essential.

Boos said the program could not do all the work it does without the help of the Dunn County and Eau Claire County Veterans Service Offices.
