Eau Claire (WQOW) – UW-Eau Claire’s homecoming starts on Friday, and Eau Claire police are getting ready for the big crowd this weekend.

Law enforcement said they’ll have a large presence at the homecoming parade Saturday to make sure proper roads are closed and everyone is safe. There will also be heavy foot patrol on campus and the third ward to make sure everyone is drinking responsibly.

Officers aren’t just patrolling for safety, they’re hoping to connect.

“Although our job is to make sure that everybody is staying safe, that they’re abiding by state statute and city ordinance laws, we are also out there to have a positive presence, and interact with those students and adults that are out there just to have a good time,” said Bridget Coit from the Eau Claire Police Department.

Coit said there will be 50 filled shifts this weekend to patrol the various homecoming celebrations.
