McDonell Central Catholic falls in semifinal to Sheboygan Lutheran

MADISON  (WKOW) — Sheboygan Lutheran’s Jacob Ognacevic led the charge in the second half as the Crusaders defeated McDonell Central, last year’s state runner up, 74-61, in a WIAA D5 semifinal Friday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Sheboygan Lutheran, the Division 5 No. 1 seed, advances to the state title game at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Ognacevic, who has received some attention from Division 1 basketball schools, led all scores with 19.

Delvin Barnstable added 18 and Casey Verhagen scored 12 for the Crusaders.

Corey Hoglund was the high scorer for McDonell Centeral with 18.

After a tie at 11 with 10 minutes to go in the half, Sheboygan Lutheran went on a run to finish the half with a 29-25 lead.

The Macks kept chipping away at the lead however, and closed to 37-34 with just under 14 minutes to play.

However that was a close as they would get.
