Clayton remains undefeated, advances to D5 title game

GREEN BAY (WQOW) – Down ten at the half, the Clayton Bears battled back to defeat the Newman Catholic Fighting Cardinals 45-37 to advance to the WIAA Girls State Division 5 Basketball Championship.

Newman Catholic were up by seven at 37-30 with 6:37 left in the game on a hoop by Julia Seidel.

Then the lid fell on the basket for the Fighting Cardinals.

The Bears chipped away at the lead with baskets by Kennedy Patrick and Alison Leslie.

Leslie’s three-pointer at the 4:13 mark tied the game at 37. A layup by Kailey Ketz gave Clayton the lead for good at 3:16.

Newman couldn’t find an answer for the Bears defensive scheme on the other end of the court. A turnover and missed shots ended the game for the Fighting Cardinals.

Alison Leslie dropped 18 for Clayton, along with 12 by Kailey Ketz and 11 from Kennedy Patrick.

Newman was led by 22 from Julia Seidel. Leading scorer for the team Jadelyn Ganski failed to score during the game.
