Minnesota Twins: Paul Molitor out as manager

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Paul Molitor, who has been the manager for the Minnesota Twins since 2015, will not be returning to the position for the 2019 season.

The Twins made the announcement on Tuesday, saying Molitor has been offered a position to stay with the organization in a Baseball Operations capacity.

Molitor will consider the offer.

The Twins manager played for the team from 1996-1998, and held multiple coaching positions at the minor and major league levels before becoming the manager.

He has led the Twins to a record of 305-343 in his four seasons as manager.

Team officials say they will immediately begin their search for a new manager, both internally and externally.

Molitor issued the following statement on Tuesday:

“I was informed today that the Twins will seek a new manager for the 2019 season and I fully respect that decision. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity they gave me to serve in the role as manager for these past four years. I’m going to consider their genuine offer to serve in a different capacity to positively impact the Twins from a different role. Special thanks to my coaches and players I have had a chance to manage and I certainly appreciate the tremendous support I received from all of Twins Territory.”
