Eau Claire (WQOW) — After his first career start in college on Saturday against Loras, UW-Eau Claire sophomore quarterback Jonathan Malueg is confidence in his game going forward.

Malueg helped lead the Blugolds’ offense to four touchdowns in the 35-3 victory, including his own 9-yard rushing score in the third quarter. He finished the game with 98 yards passing, two yards rushing, but also threw a pair of interceptions. He won the quarterback competition during fall camp, and after his first start is confident he’ll keep improving every week.

“Taking that first sack, that took a lot of the pressure off. I was like alright now I know how that feels, and after that I was ready,” says Malueg. “I never thought one time that, oh I’m the guy right away I knew I had to battle, work hard, because I know these other two guys, three, four guys behind me are trying to do the same thing and the positions open. Offensively there’s a lot to grow from. A lot of success too that we’re going to keep building on, but a lot to grow as well. Next week I think we’ll be a lot better, more comfortable back there.”

UW-Eau Claire will travel to St. Norbert on Saturday, in a non-conference road game at 1 p.m.
