Friendly competition between Express players yields results

Eau Claire (WQOW) –  The Eau Claire Express have been on an offensive roll to start the second half of the season, and it’s been infielders Matt Bottcher and Troy Beilsmith who have been leading the way. Bottcher is currently on top of the Northwoods League batting average with an impressive .401, while Belismith has a .322 on the season. Even though these two both play for the city of Eau Claire, there is still a little competition between teammates.

“It’s kind of funny,” says Beilsmith. “It’s tough to be able to keep up with a guy hitting .400, but there maybe a little competition in our heads trying to out do each other. It just comes down to hitting baseballs well. It’s tough to be too competitive about it, as long as you’re doing your job, the rest can fall as it may. ”

“You know, it’s great,” says Bottcher. “Troy’s a great player and it’s kind of nice. We all kind of learn from each other and we pick up different stuff, wondering what the pitchers throwing us in certain counts or certain at bats. It’s just nice.”

Both players will be representing the Express at the NWL All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16th.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa.
