Eau Claire (WQOW) — Week eight of the high school football season kicks off Friday night, with potentially the game of the week for the entire state as Regis (7-0) travels to face Spencer/Columbus (7-0).
The result of this game could decide the Clovebelt champion, as both teams enter the game 6-0 in conference play. Both offenses have been explosive this season, as the Ramblers are averaging just under 40 points a game, and the Rockets 42 points a contest. But for how high-powered both of these offenses are, the final outcome could be decided on the other side of the ball.
“More of a defensive battle than people expect, both teams have scored a lot of points throughout the year, but I think part of that is a result of two real good defenses,” says Regis head coach Bryant Brenner, who’s team is outscoring their opponents this season 276-33. “So we’re anticipating a low-scoring game, where every possession is really, really important. This is going to be a great thing for our team. It’s going to be a great learning opportunity, regardless win or lose, we’re just excited to have an opponent of this caliber to see where we’re at.”
Spencer/Columbus won this game last year at Carson Park, 23-8. Kick-off Friday night is set for 7 P.M. in Spencer.
