Blugold football ready to bounce back against Blue Devils

Eau Claire (WQOW) — The non-conference part of the season is over for Blugold football, as they enter WIAC play Saturday night against UW-Stout with a 2-1 record.

The Blugolds are coming off their first loss of the season last weekend, in a 49-0 defeat to second-ranked St. Thomas (MN). But now all their focus shifts to the “War on I-94” Saturday night in Menomonie against the 2-1 Blue Devils. UW-Eau Claire has had some tough sledding against UW-Stout in the last three years, losing all three contests by three scores or more. But this is a highly motivated group, and head coach Dan Larson is excited to see how they bounce back.

“It’s still about us this week more than anything else. It’s a little bit of a gut check, it’s a little bit of a heart check, how badly to you want to be a winning football program,” Larson says, who is off to his best start as the head coach (2-1). “How badly do you want to erase some demons we’ve had against a good Stout football team. You know, we have not had a lot of success with these guys for the last two years and a lot of that has been they have been flat out better than us, and they’ve outplayed us in every single facet. So again, there should be a lot of motivation for us to be a better football team on Saturday.”

Kick-off is set for 6:05 P.M. Saturday night in Menomonie.
