Blugold’s football ready for home opener Saturday night

Eau Claire (WQOW) — After beating Loras College week one 45-13, the Blugold football team is now ready for their home opener Saturday night against St. Norbert’s College.

The win over the Duhawks already matches their win total from 2017, and the Blugolds dominated from start to finish to move to 1-0. But now they must shift their focus to the Green Knights Saturday night at Carson Park, where they are also 1-0 after beating Aurora University 16-7 in week one.

UWEC went 1-3 last season at Carson Park, and are 2-7 overall under head coach Dan Larson at home. But they are hoping a win week one will lead to another great atmosphere, to help turn things around.

“That’s been one thing that’s really stood out to me, is the community support and the amount of rally that we’ve gotten from the university, from the campus, but also the community at our home games,” says Larson, who is in his third season with the Blugolds. “It’s been outstanding, I think it’s been second to none in our conference, and we hope to have that continued this upcoming weekend. I know the guys are excited to play for it, it’s always a special thing doing the Blugold walk and taking the field under the lights. The bands playing, the crowds cheering, and hopefully a Blugold win.”

Kick-off is set for 6:10 P.M. Saturday night at Carson Park, as UWEC looks to move to 2-0 for the first time since 2010.
