Eau Claire (WQOW) — Mankato blew open a close game with a 6-run eighth inning, as the Moondogs defeated the Express at Carson Park, 9-0.
Moondogs starter Nathan Hickey threw a gem, holding Eau Claire scoreless over seven innings on just one hit and four walks, while striking out eight. Ryan Duffy pitched 1-2-3 eighth, with Matt Arens doing likewise in the ninth. Duffy and Arens each struck out a hitter.
Carson Rudd’s pitching kept the Express close, he worked seven innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks, while striking out nine. Andrew Pratt was tagged for six runs on four hits and a pair of walks while only retiring two batters.
Eau Claire will begin its final series of the season Saturday, at Carson Park, when the Express hosts St. Cloud in a 6:35 P.M. game.
