NWL Monday: Express split doubleheader with Stingers

Eau Claire (WQOW) — The Express split a doubleheader with Willmar Monday at Carson Park, falling in game one 8-2 and bouncing back in the second 5-2.

In game one, the Stingers were already up 1-0 heading into the third inning and extended the lead with four runs. Down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Eau Claire finally got on the board with a ground-out from Adam LaRock scoring Devon Garcia. Willmar though added three more runs next inning to take an 8-1 lead, including a two-RBI single by Shea Kramer. The Express added one more run in the bottom half, when Nick Brueser hit his sixth homerun of the season.

In the second game, Eau Claire struck right away in the first inning with a bases loaded walk by David LaManna scoring Spencer Myers. After Willmar tied it at one in the fourth inning, the Express used a big four-run sixth to take back the lead. Brueser and LaManna both scored on passed balls, and Adam LaRock delivered the dagger with a two-RBI double bringing in Ryan Bishop and Drew Hmielewski.

Trevor Olson picked up the win for Eau Claire in relief, only allowing one run on one hit in three and one-third innings. The Express only registered two hits in the victory.

Eau Claire is off tomorrow due to the Major League Dreams Showcase at Warner Park. They return to action Wednesday night at Carson Park against Willmar, and the first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
