NWL Wednesday: Honkers sweep Express

Eau Claire (WQOW) — The Express were swept in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Carson Park, falling to Rochester 4-2 and 13-4.

In game one, the Honkers took the lead in the third inning, when a Nate Webb single scored Mike Peabody making it 1-0. Eau Claire though answered in the fourth with a Nick Brueser single bringing in Noah Sifrit, and then took the lead in the fifth from a Mitchell Buban solo homerun. Rochester though scored a pair of runs in the seventh to retake the lead, and held on for the victory.

In the second game, it was all Honkers as they brought the bats all evening. They took the lead in the third scoring a pair of runs, then added four more in the sixth to make it 6-0. However, the damage was done in the seventh inning when Rochester plated seven runs and went up 13-0. The Express did finally get on the board in the ninth scoring four times, including a Cody Milligan RBI single and David LaManna bases clearing double.

Eau Claire is now 11-14 in the second half of the season, and 24-36 overall. They return to action Thursday night in Thunder Bay, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M.
