Eau Claire (WQOW)- The Blue Ox Music Festival got a nice boost from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism on Wednesday.

The festival was presented with a $39,500 grant.

Festival organizer Mark Bischel said the money will go to their marketing efforts to help highlight the event.

Last year, Blue Ox welcomed roughly 4,500 music fans. They hope to grow that number by raising awareness in outside markets about the event.

“Expanding our marketing efforts to beyond basically Wisconsin and the neighboring states,” Bischel said. “We’re just trying to get word out on the festival about what we’re doing to a little larger national audience.”

Bischel said he thinks the festival is a success because of its intimate environment and because it is a family-friendly event.

He said they’re still working on the 2020 lineup, but expects to release more info in the coming months
