DNR warns about hunting license scams

MADISON (WKOW) — As we get closer to deer hunting season, the Department of Natural Resources is warning hunters about online license scams.

The agency says there are at least two sites that claim to offer the licenses, but after you pay a fee, you only get information on how to apply for a license.

The sites also collect personal data during the transactions.

The DNR says real licenses can be bought on its GoWild site, one of its service centers or a DNR authorized retailer.

Anyone who thinks they may have already been scammed by one of these sites can file a complaint with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) by calling their hotline at 1-800-422-7128 or email datcphotline@wi.gov.
