Chippewa Falls (WQOW)  The 17th annual Oktoberfest kicks off Friday in Chippewa Falls.

You’re invited to celebrate the German heritage of the Chippewa Valley at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. The event has live music, face painting, contests and plenty of German food and drinks.

Organizers said the event features a little something for everyone.

“We really make it family friendly. Obviously once it gets dark it definitely switches to more adult time so you can get away without your kids if you want,” said Tasha Weiss the program director for the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce. “The food is great, and everybody just is friendly and has a good time.”

The fairgrounds are open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and again on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A daily precipitation record was set in Eau Claire as more than an inch and a half of rain fell at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport. The low pressure system that caused this is only halfway through the Chippewa Valley, and tomorrow it will bring strong wind and lighter rain.
