Arrest made in a pair of Menomonie burglary cases

Menomonie (WQOW) — The Menomonie Police Department has arrested the suspect wanted in a pair of burglaries in Dunn County.

In a release, Menomonie Police Chief Eric Atkinson said Jared C. Smith, 36, was arrested in Menomonie on Wednesday in connection to the cases. He’s being held on multiple counts of burglary and criminal damage.

Police said on July 4, security footage showed a person matching Smith’s description breaking the door of the BP on 9th Street East and stealing several cases of cigarettes and some lighters.

Smith is also implicated in an attempted burglary August 26 at the Bridge Stop gas station in Wheeler.

The Menomonie Police Department said it worked in coordination with the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.

Smith is being held until formal charges are filed.

A daily precipitation record was set in Eau Claire as more than an inch and a half of rain fell at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport. The low pressure system that caused this is only halfway through the Chippewa Valley, and tomorrow it will bring strong wind and lighter rain.
