Portage Co. man faces new charges after being found in makeshift bunker

PORTAGE CO., Wis. (WAOW) — A Portage County man, wanted after not appearing in court on child porn and sexual assault charges, was on the run for more than three years.

After recently being found, Jeremiah Button now faces additional charges. At a pre-trial hearing in a Portage County courthouse Monday, the state charged Button with nine more counts of child pornography.

Button was scheduled to appear in court back in 2016 on charges of first-degree child sexual assault and child pornography but never showed up.

He was found last month, living in a makeshift bunker along the Ice Age Trail in Marathon County.

Button heads to trial next week on the latest set of child pornography charges in addition to one he already faced, as well as first-degree sexual assault.
