Spooner (WQOW) — One hundred and fifty northern Wisconsin Army National Guard soldiers are headed to the Middle East this fall.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard 829th Engineer Company is headquartered in Spooner. According to a release from the Wisconsin National Guard, 150 soldiers will be deployed as a versatile construction element and will support an engineer battalion from Indiana.

The 829th was last deployed to Afghanistan in 2013-2014. The unit also served in Iraq in 2003-2004 and again in 2009-2010.

A send-off ceremony for the soldiers is being planned, but a date has yet to be determined.

According to the Wisconsin Army National Guard, there are more than 1,000 soldiers and airmen from Wisconsin serving abroad. That list includes 400 soldiers from the 128th Infantry Batallion based out of Eau Claire.
