VA Medical Center welcomes veterans, families for mental health summit

MADISON (WKOW) — A veterans community group in the Madison area hosted a Mental Health Summit on Tuesday.

The group that gathered at the Memorial Union for the 7th annual summit considered of social workers, nurses, care managers, health care providers, veterans and their families. The focus of this year’s summit was “Transitions Through Life: A Veteran’s Experience”.

“It’s really important because veterans are a very quiet and humbled group and they’re a minority,” said Donald Bialkowski, Local Recovery Coordinator at Madison VA Hospital. “They come with very special circumstances so it’s really important to have these events that we can bring other providers together and we wanted to learn what are some of those challenges.”

Topics covered at Tuesday’s summit included military separation and veteran families.
