Eau Claire Co. man leads authorities on 100 mph chase before crashing motorcycle

Chippewa County (WQOW) – A high-speed chase left an Eau Claire County man in the hospital and later a jail cell.

Lake Hallie Police Chief Cal Smokowicz said on Monday, September 2, at 5:52 p.m. officers were notified of a motorcycle doing wheelies on Business 53.

An officer followed the motorcyclist into the Walmart parking lot where he stopped momentarily before heading east onto Highway OO.

A second Lake Hallie officer was passed by the motorcycle on OO. That is when the driver, Justin Link, 31, failed to make a corner, lost control and crashed.

Link told officers he was going 100 mph.

Link spent the next three days in the hospital before being taking to the Chippewa County Jail on Thursday.

Link was arrested for operating under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of meth, knowingly fleeing an officer, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, a probation violation and a felony bond violation.
