According to Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd, the Spring Brook Lutheran Church and old school house in Elk Mound have been the target of a number break-ins and vandalism over the years.

Saturday’s crime in particular involved a broken window to gain entry into the building.

According to the sheriff, a big reason for the draw to this rural church is phenomena around a ghost story.

According to unexplainedresearch.com, the church is believed to be the site of paranormal activity following the tale of a minister’s death in the belfry.

Because of the old wives’ tale, the sheriff said for years overtime security had to be hired on Halloween night to discourage these crimes.

The church was also vandalized just last month. You can read about that here.
