President Trump expresses interest in purchasing Greenland

(CNN) – President Trump has reportedly on multiple occasions expressed interest in a new real estate purchase.

Sources said the White House has looked into the possibility of buying Greenland from the Danish government, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Journal, he has raised the issue during meetings and dinners with varying degrees of seriousness, questioning aids about the possible advantages of purchasing the territory.

Two sources close to the president said Trump’s aides were divided on the issue with some praising it as solid economic strategy and others dismissing it as a passing fancy.

In a statement issued on Friday, the government said “Greenland is not for sale.”

They did add the country “is open to cooperation between equal countries.”
