Eau Claire County (WQOW) – The Eau Claire City-County Health Department wants you to stay out of the waters of Lake Eau Claire because of a harmful algae bloom.

Health officials say the blooms can produce poisons that can make people and pets sick and can kill fish by blocking sunlight or using up oxygen.

Because of that, the health department is asking that no one swim or even go into the water where algae scum is seen. They also ask that people avoid boating or fishing in those areas.

The health department is monitoring the levels and will be posting updates on their website.
