Emergency responders practice saving lives at Chippewa Valley Regional Airport

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Local authorities fought fires, took care of victims, and tended to an emergency plane crash Tuesday for training.

Multiple emergency services crews practiced saving lives during a simulated plane crash at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport. Crews practiced responding to a full-scale emergency, honing their skills extinguishing fires rescuing victims, and supplying water.

“We are working hard collaboratively with the fire departments and other emergency services such as law enforcement, emergency management here in the city of Eau Claire, Eau Claire County, Chippewa County, to prepare ourselves well to respond to large-scale incidents and smaller incidents,” said Allyn Bertrang, deputy chief of the Eau Claire Fire Department.

Firefighters say this helps them figure out what to improve upon in case they need to respond to an actual disaster.
