Eau Claire (WQOW) — A Sawyer County man is free on signature bond after being arrested and charged with his the OWI.

According to the criminal complaint, Eau Claire police pulled over Douglas Baker on Sunday for allegedly going 15 miles over the speed limit in a 25 mph zone. When the officer asked Baker why he had been pulled over, he said: “Yeah, I’m on the phone with my brother. I know I’m going to jail so he’s got to come and get the car.”

Baker admitted to the officer that he did not have a valid drivers license due to a prior OWI conviction.

Police said Baker smelled of alcohol and appeared to be under the influence. Baker said he had three or four drinks that night. Because of his prior OWI offenses, he is under a .020 alcohol restriction.

Police said Baker refused to perform field sobriety tests. Officers said his breathalyzer tests had a reported amount of .137.

Baker returns to court August 6.
