Chippewa County (WQOW) – A Chippewa Falls man will spend time behind bars in a child abuse case.

According to the criminal complaint, the 11-year-old victim told police Craig Belden assaulted her on two different occasions while he was on a beer run.

He pleaded no contest to two counts of child abuse in April. A count of child sexual assault was dismissed on a motion by prosecutors.

Tuesday, Judge James Isaacson sentenced Belden to seven months in jail with work release as well as three years of probation.

He’s also ordered to maintain absolute sobriety during that time.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Craig Belden was sentenced for sexually assaulting a child. The story has been updated to reflect the child sexual assault charge was dismissed on a motion by prosecutors. Belden pleaded no contest to two counts of child abuse in April.
