Community shows support for deployed troops in Menomonie

Menomonie (WQOW)– Some of the local soldiers being deployed to Afghanistan got a big sendoff Thursday.

Menomonie residents lined the streets as police squad cars and firetrucks escorted buses filled with soldiers.

They are some of the 400 members of the National Guard’s Red Arrow Brigade based in Eau Claire.

Their battalion includes companies in Menomonie, Rice Lake, New Richmond, River Falls, Arcadia and Abbotsford.

Last Sunday, Governor Tony Evers was in Menomonie for a private send off ceremony for the troops.

They will provide security for coalition forces. They expect to be gone for about one year.
