Eau Claire County man allegedly gives child skull fractures, brain bleed

Eau Claire (WQOW) – An Eau Claire County man could spend the next 60 years behind bars for allegedly causing skull fractures, a brain bleed and eye hemorrhages on a child less than one year old.

Tyler Bedell, 25, is charged with one count of physical abuse of a child, repeated acts intentionally causing great bodily harm.

According to the criminal complaint, in March doctors found two skull fractures, a brain bleed and more than 10 hemorrhages in the right eye of the child who was 6 1/2 months old at the time.

Bedell said he accidentally dropped the girl and she hit her head on the tub. The doctor who examined the girl said the injuries were not an accident.

The doctor added the child was also in the hospital two months prior with facial bruising and an eye bleed.

In June, the child was again taken to the hospital with a rash that appeared to be from strangulation and/or suffocation, according to a doctor.

Doctors said a CT scan showed brain damage caused by the incident in March and that the damaged part of the brain will die over time. Doctors also added the scan showed a growing skull fracture.

A $50,000 cash bond was set for Bedell.
