Gov. Evers to attend sendoff ceremony for troops based out of Eau Claire

Menomonie (WQOW) – Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Army National Guard will take part in a ceremony sending off 400 local National Guard soldiers to Afghanistan.

The ceremony will be held this Sunday at noon at the Johnson Fieldhouse on the UW-Stout campus.

Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry based out of Eau Claire will act as a security element for coalition forces operating in the region.

They expect to be there for about a year.

The infantry has deployed multiple times since 9/11, but this will be their first trip to Afghanistan.

The event is not open to the public.
