Plea deal for man accused of trying to set up sex with a boy

Barron County (WQOW) – A Strum man accused of trying to set up sex with a 15-year-old boy has reached a plea deal with Barron County prosecutors.

Police say Joseph Matz, 39, exchanged text messages with an undercover officer he thought was a young boy.

Matz was arrested at a park with condoms and lubrication.

Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to a count of attempted 2nd degree sexual assault of a child in exchange for the other charges being dismissed. He faces 40 years in prison at his sentencing hearing in October.
