Veggin’ Out encourages healthy eating in Eau Claire

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Farmers markets are in full swing and a program through the Eau Claire City-County Health Department is helping people make the most of their produce.

The health department says nearly 75% of adults in Eau Claire do not eat their daily recommended amount of fruits and veggies, but the Veggin’ Out program offers fun, unique and easy recipes for families to enjoy.

Every week they have a new recipe to sample at their tables and each recipe revolves around the veggie of the month.

“We’ve heard from community members that they find a favorite and then they start incorporating it and adding it to their regular eating plan all year round. So, that’s kind of the long-term benefit that you can try it one time. Someone shows you exactly how to make it and then you can keep doing it over and over again,” said Susan Krahn, public health nutritionist.

Everyone is welcome to visit the Veggin’ Out table for healthy recipes, food samples and fun activity ideas for kids through August 21.
