Eau Claire (WQOW) – An organization in Eau Claire, that provides shelter and resources to those trying to escape domestic violence, broke ground on an expansion Tuesday afternoon.

The Bolton Refuge House’s current facility is an 18-room emergency shelter facility and staff said they’re at capacity a majority of the time.

The 900-thousand dollar new expansion will be a two-story expansion to the original building. It will feature four one-bedroom apartments and two two-bedroom apartments to better offer a safe and secure place for families in a tough time.

Organizers said getting to this point has been a long-time coming.

“It’s done, it’s happening. It’s an innovative program that is so incredibly exciting and anybody in Eau Claire should feel good about the fact that we’re addressing the problems because we’ve listened to victims,” said Patricia Stein, executive director of Bolton Refuge House.

Staff said 80-90% of the funds have been raised to this point.

Tuesday, organizers announced the kickoff of the Pave The Way campaign where people purchase bricks that will be placed in front of the new expansion. They’re hoping to raise the last 100-thousand dollars through this campaign.

If all goes to plan, the new Farwell Wing will be ready for occupants on February 1st, 2020.
