Eau Claire senior gets unwanted surprise: A stranger in her bed

Eau Claire (WQOW) – Eau Claire police have a message for you – lock your doors and windows at night, because you never know who might find their way in.

That message comes after a woman in her seventies felt a man crawl into her bed on Sunday. Turns out, the man was not her husband.

She started to scream. The man quickly got up, apologized and left the home.

The woman and her husband looked around the house, but the person was already gone.

Turns out the man, Patrick Wampler, 29, was intoxicated and accidentally went to the wrong house, thus getting into a bed that wasn’t his, according to police.

The woman called 911 and police found Wampler just one block away.

Wampler was arrested for disorderly conduct, criminal trespass to dwelling, possession of THC, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
