When to travel to avoid congestion this week

(WQOW) – If your Independence Day plans include a car ride, experts said you might want to get a head start to beat the traffic.

AAA projects about 49 million Americans will be traveling more than 50 miles from home this year.

That is about a 4% increase from last year.

They said a 10-cent decrease in gas prices over last year along with a strong economy are likely behind much of the increase.

AAA suggests if you want to avoid congestion, try to leave early in the morning, or if your schedule allows, try to actually leave on the Fourth of July.
