Eau Claire (WQOW) – Six years of planning and construction culminated with the cut of a ribbon Tuesday at Haymarket Plaza.
The grand opening ceremony was held Tuesday morning in downtown Eau Claire. More than 100 people showed up at the plaza to celebrate.
City Engineer Dave Solberg said the plaza will be a popular public space with water fountains and fire features, plus a lot of green space. You will also get great views of the Eau Claire River and Chippewa River.
“It’s really exciting to see people come together to bring to life a project that the citizens of Eau Claire have worked on for many years,” said Eau Claire City Council Member Catherine Emmanuelle. “From many planning workshops to seeing a really unique and inviting, beautiful, welcoming space for all citizens to enjoy.”
City Council President Terry Weld also spoke at the ceremony, praising everyone’s hard work and calling the plaza a downtown destination.
