Motorcyclist drives into wet concrete at Iowa County gas station

HOLLANDALE (WKOW) — A stop for gas in Iowa County was anything but smooth for one motorcyclist, and the whole thing was caught on security camera.

Workers just finished pouring concrete into the parking lot at Corner Mart Tire and Auto in Hollandale when they got an unexpected visitor.

“Out of the corner of my eye, I was standing over there, and I looked and I saw a motorcycle coming through,” said owner Steve Edge. “I started yelling, ‘No! No!’”

But the motorcyclist continued directly into the wet concrete. He stopped halfway through when he realized what he had done — and then kept going.

“I said, ‘We’re shut down. That’s why all the barricades are up, and you just drove through wet concrete,’” Edge said. “And he says, ‘I know!’”

Once he was out of the concrete, he hosed off his bike and rode away.

“I’m sure he was embarrassed,” Edge said. “I thought he’d come and say he was sorry. That would have been kind of nice. It is what it is.”

Luckily, the concrete was freshly poured, so it was an easy fix.

“If it would have been half, three-quarters dry, it would have been a mess,” Edge said. “We would have had to cut it out and redo it.”

Edge says it had just been poured five minutes prior, so it wasn’t too hard to smooth out.

“‘That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.’ That’s what the owner of the (concrete) company said,” Edge said.

Now that the concrete is hard, Edge says there are no hard feelings.

“We giggled a little bit, and away we went,” he said. “He probably won’t stop in for a while.”
