Family identified the drowning victim as Dylun Tapio. He would’ve turned 13 on June 27, according to WBAY-ABC 2 in Green Bay.

The Kaukauna Police and Fire department were called about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday to Lamplighter Drive in Kaukauna.

When they arrived, they saw several people who said they were looking for a boy in a pond on the grounds of Lamplighter Apartments.

Police learned that four brothers, ages 7, 11, 11 and 12 came to the retention pond to release a turtle.

One of the boys was on the bank of the pond and saw two of his brothers struggling in the pond, according to a news release from the Kaukauna Police Department.

One of the brothers began to yell for help and two residents of Lamplighter Apartments, a mother and daughter, heard the boy yelling for help and came running out to the pond.

The women saw two boys struggling in the pond. One of the women jumped into the pond and pulled out the two boys.

The third boy, the 12-year-old, was not initially seen in the pond.

Rescue personnel from Kaukauna Fire Department, Vandenbroek Fire Department, and Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team continued to search the pond for the missing child.

They were able to recover the child from the pond, who was immediately transported to a local hospital.

After lifesaving attempts were performed, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police believe the child was in the pond for approx. 1 ½ to 2 hours before being recovered. This case is still under investigation.
