Eau Claire (WQOW) – It’s been almost three months since Shopko announced the closing of all its locations. Now the department store is just days away from shutting its doors for good

Back in March, News 18 reported all Shopko stores are closing, and that includes two stores right here in the Chippewa Valley (Eau Claire and Lake Hallie).

More: Shopko closing for good on Sunday

“This is a high-traffic corridor on Clairemont and the front stores such as the Starbucks and the Wendy’s that are here. It is likely not to see a lot of change in their customer base,” said Eau Claire’s Economic Development Director Aaron White. “I wouldn’t expect to see much difference in their sales. They’re pulling folks off of Clairemont based on who they are, not based on their presence to the shopping center. Obviously it could have some impact to the businesses that are co-located in the strip center.”

A Shopko employee told a News 18 reporter the store is permanently closing Sunday at 6 p.m. and everything must be gone by the end of the weekend.

White added with a building the size of Shopko there is always the possibility it could be on the market for a while. He said right now there is no one specifically interested in purchasing the property, but he said he is optimistic for the building’s future because of its good location.
